Dear Janney Community,

We have made it to the FINAL newsletter of 2020!

I hope you find the winter break to be peaceful, safe, and rejuvenating.  We look forward to welcoming students and families back to virtual school on Monday, January 4.  My letter tonight is short with an offer of thanks to a few specific staff members and a few reminders about our reopening plans.

As we bring 2020 to a close, I do want to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to the operational and administrative teams at Janney who have been reporting in-person since late June.  Our front office staff and our custodians have shown tremendous patience, flexibility, and strength during this time as we stopped and started various iterations of our reopening plans.  Huge thanks to Ms. Calnan-Crismali, Ms. Franklin, Mr. Adams, Mr. Lindsay, Ms. Cruz, Mr. Duval, and Mr. Long.  In addition to our front office and custodial teams, Ms. Ann Beumel and Mr. Mike Barnhart have gone above and beyond the call of duty – and these are two staff members who regularly go above and beyond what is required of them on a daily basis.  They have been a steady and regular presence when so much is uncertain and unknown, and the countless, unseen things they do on a daily basis is truly what keeps our school going.  Ann and Mike have never wavered in their focus on why we do what do and have always put our students first.  We are all lucky to have these staff members at Janney.

I will share final reopening plans during our first week back in January and the month will move quickly as we announce our final in-person staff list, release lottery results, and engage in conversations about class changes.  We previewed our reopening plan at two community meetings last week; the recording of Thursday’s meeting is shared on our SharePoint site.  Please note that our reopening plan is based upon many factors: advice from our LSAT; teacher input and feedback; survey results; physical capacity of our building; and, teacher availability.  We also wanted to craft a plan that could grow in Advisory 4 to bring back more students if health and safety factors allow, without dramatically altering class placement and our virtual schedule.  We look forward to sharing final plans with you by January 5.

Have a fantastic break and thank you for your continued support.

Best Regards,

Alysia Lutz, Principal
