Dear Janney Community,

I have continued to engage our teachers and staff and our Reopen Community Corps in planning conversations as we prepare to return more students to the building for Advisory 3.  I have appreciated the many families who have reached out with suggestions on instructional models – I know that many schools across many states and countries have successfully brought students back to school this year.  Please note that while we (Janney) do have some autonomy in designing a model that will work best for our school, that autonomy is not without restrictions and limitations.  AP Barnhart and I will spend time at our upcoming community sessions explaining why we are prioritizing bringing specifics groups of students back to the building for Advisory 3 and what that return to in-person learning could look like.

As I mentioned last week, we will not be able to bring back the over 60% of students who do want to return in-person for Advisory 3, but we will bring back students at every grade level.

We will host two meetings this week to update the community on our Advisory 3 planning: Wednesday, December 16 from 9:15-10:15am; and Thursday, December 17 from 6:30-7:30pm.  You must RSVP for the sessions and the RSVP link for both sessions will close at 8:45am on Wednesday, December 16.  Participants will be emailed a link to the sessions prior to the sessions start time. A link to the session recording will be posted on our SharePoint site following the session.

A few items to note:
*The meetings will be hosted on Zoom and you must display your name (not “Serial Hacker 20567”) to be admitted from the waiting room;
*We will not be admitting people more than five minutes after the meeting has started;
*We will save time for questions but note that we will not be able to answer all questions and plan to follow-up with additional answers after the meeting.

Two resources that I shared last week:
*A high-level overview of the possible DCPS instructional models for Advisory 3 can be viewed here.
*A high-level overview of the data we gathered from the DCPS family survey is linked here.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate this challenging time.

Best Regards,

Alysia Lutz, Principal
