Letter from the Principal

Letter from the PrincipalComments Off on Letter from the Principal

Dear Janney Community,

Thank you for your kind words and support during this uncertain time.  I am hopeful that we will receive more clarity on the re-opening plans soon.

To that end, my letter will be brief as I expect to have additional information on our re-opening plans in the coming days.  Below, please find important information on changes to our virtual schedule next week and a final call for volunteers to serve on the LSAT.

Changes to Virtual Schedule Week of November 2
DCPS recently announced changes to elementary schools’ virtual schedules for the week of
November 2.  Please see below for the specific changes.

Monday, Nov 2: No change to virtual schedule – “normal” virtual school day

Tuesday, Nov 3: Election Day – no virtual school

Wednesday, Nov 4: CHANGE – Asynchronous learning day with no live instruction

Thursday, Nov 5: CHANGE – Asynchronous learning day with no live instruction

Friday, Nov 6: End of Term 1 – no virtual school

Please note that we still plan to host Jamboree on Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30, but will then direct students to Canvas to view asynchronous videos and lessons from their teachers.  More information on the exact structure of the days is forthcoming.  Wednesday and Thursday are now days reserved for teacher professional development.

LSAT Elections – Call for Volunteers (updated)
The LSAT is looking for parent volunteers to serve on the LSAT.  The elected parent representatives will serve a two-year term and we hope to hold elections in November.  Please note that the window to volunteer to serve on LSAT will close on Monday, November 2 at 5pm.  We will then host a three-week virtual election period from November 3- November 24.  Interested parents should reach out to Principal Lutz.

The LSAT (Local School Advisory Team) advises the Principal on issues related to the Local School Plan: what is needed at the school, where we want to be as a school, whether we are there, and if not, how we should get there.
LSAT meetings are open to the Janney community for observation. LSAT meetings typically occur on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the school library.  Meetings begin at 6 pm.
The Janney LSAT is composed of the Principal, six teachers, six parents, and, at times, a student representative and a community representative. The LSAT supports the Principal’s implementation of the DCPS Teaching and Learning Framework by advising the Principal on matters related to teaching and learning, leadership, job embedded professional development, resources, safe and effective learning environments, and family and community engagement.
The LSAT is an elected body that serves in an advisory capacity to the Principal by:
1. Receiving and making appropriate recommendations regarding the development of the Local School Plan,
2. Monitoring and assessing the implementation of the Local School Plan,
3. Using assessment results to develop and modify specific strategies for school improvement, and
4. Ensuring compliance with established guidelines, contracts, and District rules.

Sincerely,

Alysia Lutz, Principal
