Dear Janney Families,

We look forward to hosting you this Friday, March 8 for our Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Your child’s teacher should have sent out a link to their conference sign-up; please click this link if you’d like to sign-up for a conference with a Specials teacher.

You will receive an e-mail from Panorama this month inviting you to participate in an online survey to gather feedback on your child’s social emotional learning, parent communication, parent engagement, and overall satisfaction with the school and district.  Please take some time to complete the survey online; its goal is to help us better understand our school climate and culture.  If you’d like to learn more about Panorama, please click here.

Ms. Sara Solomon, school Social Worker, is writing this month’s student support services column – and March is National Social Worker Month!

Have a great week!

Student Support Services Column
Hello Janney Jaguars!
Happy School Social Work Week!
You may not know this, but March is National Social Work Month, of which the first week is set aside to highlight School Social Workers. In honor of that, I’d like to take this opportunity to revisit something I wrote in this space last year. I’m choosing to re-publish this series because a) the topic and content are great representations of some of the value that school mental health personnel bring to the community, b) it touched many of you who reached out to me after reading it seeking more information, and c) I’m proud of it.

The topic was on a therapy method called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and discussed the impact of negative thoughts and how to manage them. You can find them hereherehere, and here.

One thing I really appreciated about presenting these columns was the response I got. I heard from many of you who had been seeking ways to support your children’s mental health and help them build resilience and flexibility and deal with some uncomfortable feelings and were not sure where to start. Many of you who reached out would not have thought to contact the school social worker otherwise, and I loved that it gave me the chance to connect with and help members of our community outside of my regular daily responsibilities.

I hope you enjoy these columns and find them helpful, and if so moved, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!

Sara Solomon
Janney School Social Worker

Warmly,
Alysia Lutz, Principal
