Dear Janney Community,

I am providing brief, but important updates on Advisory 4 in-person learning plans; SY 21-22 school budget allocations; and, future planning for in-person opportunities at Janney this summer.  Finally, please be on the look-out for final information on Advisory 3 social clubs by the end of the week.

DCPS recently announced that there would be no system-wide planning for an expansion of in-person offerings for Advisory 4.  I am committed to expanding our in-person learning opportunities and our LSAT is committed to exploring all possibilities as well.  One significant hurdle to expanding in-person learning is that DCPS has no plan for vaccinating our teachers and staff who are teaching virtually.  We have a number of teachers and staff who would volunteer to report in-person for Advisory 4 provided they have access to the vaccine.  Another hurdle is the revision of current health and safety protocols, specifically those that apply to the use of classroom spaces.  I am continuing to advocate on both fronts and will hopefully have further information for you next week.

DCPS recently released initial budget allocations to schools for the upcoming school year.  I will provide an update to the community next week on our initial allocation and any potential impact to our staffing model for the upcoming school year.  All school budgets are expected to be finalized by Friday, March 5.

The Chancellor also announced the allocation of funds for summer programming at each school site.  I will have further information on this programming soon but know that I will be engaging the LSAT to plan the structure and scope of summer programming.
