Dear Janney Community,

We have successfully completed Week 1 of in-person learning.  As a reminder, we have brought back roughly 40% of our enrolled student body for in-person learning or CARE; roughly 60% of our students are still engaging daily in virtual learning.  All students engage in virtual learning on Wednesday mornings.  We do hope to expand our in-person offerings during Advisory 4 if health and safety conditions allow.

I also want to remind the community that I will continue to make offers for in-person seats in grades PK-5 and for CARE seats in grades 3 and 5 if seats become available throughout the advisory.  I am sure many of you experienced some confusion after listening to the Mayor’s ROBO call last week.  It is important to note that the message was intended for families enrolled at schools that have not yet been able to fill in-person learning seats.  We will continue to follow protocol and will contact families to offer seats as seats become available.

It is also important to note that as we return some students to in-person learning, we will need to be even more flexible as individual students or entire classes of students may need to pivot to virtual learning for any length of time as they follow COVID protocols.  This means that your child’s in-person learning class might need to quarantine for two weeks and go virtual; this also means that your child’s virtual learning class might host one or two students for short periods of time throughout the advisory.  Thank you for your continued flexibility.

I should have an update on the start of lunch clubs and extracurricular activities for students in grades 3-5 next week.

Finally, now the we have returned to a form of in-person learning, DCPS has revised our inclement weather policy.  If school buildings are closed due to inclement weather, ALL students will engage in virtual learning beginning with Jamboree at 8:45AM.  If school buildings are delayed for 2 hours, virtual learning and in-person learning will be delayed for 2 hours with Jamboree beginning at 10:45AM.  This also means that AM in-person learning classes will be canceled for the day.
