Local School Advisory Team (LSAT)

The LSAT advises the Principal on issues related to the Local School Plan: what is needed at the school, where we want to be as a school, whether we are there, and if not, how we should get there.

LSAT Meetings for the 2025-2026 school year will take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm

Meetings are open to the public, in accordance with the District of Columbia Open Meeting Act, in a “fishbowl” format. Please email  janney.lsat@k12.dc.gov if you would like to join a meeting/s. You may also email janney.lsat@k12.dc.gov if there are topics you would like to see discussed. 

The Janney LSAT is composed of at least four parent representatives, elected by parents; at least four teacher representatives, elected by faculty; union representatives, and the immediate past co-presidents of the PTA who serve in an ex officio capacity. Elected members serve staggered 2- year terms to ensure continuity. 
The LSAT meets monthly to advise the Principal on matters such as: budget decisions; organization of the school; curriculum options, including special or supplementary course offerings and specialized research-based instructional strategies; allocation of school resources; priorities and considerations for staffing patterns; monitoring overall student progress; school culture; and family engagement. 
Local School Advisory Teams are a key lever to increasing transparency at DCPS and ensuring decisions affecting school communities are made collaboratively with the help of a diverse group of school stakeholders. As such, every District of Columbia public school must have a functioning LSAT that is constituted according to the LSAT Guidelines, and that conducts the business outlined herein.
