Janney+ Camp Days

Janney+  offers day camps on professional development and parent-teacher conference days when Janney is closed to students. Programs are taught by the Janney+ and Janney staff that are with your child during the school year. These days are offered only to Janney students and space for these days of care is limited.

In an effort to keep all students safe, Janney+ follows the regular school-day nut-free policy for all programming. This nut-free policy includes those products that have peanuts and tree nuts in the ingredients list. Check for nut products and by-products in foods sent to school. Products that list nuts in the ingredients are not permitted. Note this nut-free policy extends to all Janney+ camp days, including offsite field trips.

Our in-house camp days offer a workshop model where children rotate between enrichment activities and quality curated play in vendor-led activities. Some of our most popular workshops are Gardening and Environment, Sports, Programming, Art, Theater and Music, Cooking, Piano and Knitting, Writing/Storytelling Workshops, and Building and Legos. Our workshop model allows flexibility for your child to choose the enrichment activities they want to participate in each day during camp. In addition to their chosen workshops, they are also given time to participate in traditional play and seasonal activities.

Workshop activities end at 3:00 p.m. We offer Extended Day registration until 6:00 p.m. Children registered for Extended Day have additional free play, snacks, and activities with camp staff on Janney’s campus.

In-house Camp Day Schedule*

  • 8:30-9:00a.m. Drop off. Students are introduced to the activity choices and plan their schedule for the day with their Counselors.

On the days that Janney holds parent-teacher conferences, we must host our camp remotely. On these days we offer field trips, which typically go from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch is not provided on field trip days. Once we return from field trips, students have free play and we end our day with a movie in the cafeteria. We offer Extended Day registration until 6:00 p.m.

Extended Day Schedule for In-house Camp Days

  • 3:00-3:30 p.m Group snack outside provided by JAC
  • 3:30-5:00 Outside play
  • 5:00-6:00 Choice time between outside play or watch a movie

Health & Safety. Please take a few minutes to review our updated health and safety plan which can be found here. In summary, Janney+ is adhering to the following guidelines, protocols, and safety measures to mitigate risk and safely return to play:

  • Classes will adhere to social distancing and recommended guidelines
  • All participants will be required to wear masks during indoor and outdoor settings
  • Students and staff will complete a health screening prior to joining their class
  • Protocols for reporting and quarantining will be followed
  • Janney+ will continue to engage with local and state authorities and adhere to all guidelines recommended, making changes to the protocol, as needed
  • All eating will be done outside
  • Classes will spend as much time as feasible outside
  • Janney+ continues to follow DC Health’s guidance on travel recommending unvaccinated individuals get a Covid tested 3-5 upon return from travel and self-quarantine for 7 days
  • Janney+ will adhere to DCPS requirements surrounding vaccination for staff

Summer Camp 2021

We are so happy to announce plans for Janney+ Summer Camp!

We look forward to helping children reconnect with their friends and peers this summer in the safe and fun environment of Janney!

Summer Camp will provide students a much needed opportunity to safely socialize and play while also engaging in exciting and fun vendor led programming. Janney+ Summer Camp will be taught by the Janney+ staff that are typically with your child during the regular school-year. In addition, we will be inviting one of our most popular vendors, Little Scholars LLC, to host daily workshops for the topics our families requested.

We will fill each day with a variety of enrichment activities and quality curated play. In addition to their weekly workshops, children will also be provided with time to participate in traditional play and summer activities. Children that stay for our extended hours will get additional free play, snack time, and activities, all with the familiar Janney+ counselors and in the beautiful, safe, and convenient location of Janney’s campus.

We will transform the Janney outside space into different outdoor classrooms and children will have access to the playground for free play and games. To help families feel more comfortable, we will plan for the majority of activities to occur outdoors. During  inclement weather and extreme temperature days, we will move activities and workshops indoors. We will also plan for periodic indoor breaks for students to cool off in the air conditioned building, get water, and use the bathroom. Though camp may look different than it has in the past, Janney+ continues to stay true to our mission of offering programming that instills a sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness in a playful, social setting that is kind and supportive.

Janney+ Summer camp will run from July 12th to August 6th. Families have the option to enroll in one or multiple weeks of camp. Families must enroll in the entire week of camp Monday-Friday. Families who would like to enroll their children in all four weeks of camp will receive about a  5% discount.

The price of camp (8:30-3:00pm) is  $525 for the week, only $16 per hour! Extended day (3:00-5:30) is $100 per week, once again about 5% off if you enroll for all 4 weeks.

Registration is open NOW! Janney+ programs use the Campsite registration system. You may log in to your family’s Campsite account to register or view your current registrations, pay a balance, complete your children’s enrollment forms and change enrollment details, and update your family information. If needed, please create your Campsite account using the link at the bottom of the login page. This process, inclusive of completing all family and student forms, takes approximately 15 minutes.

In addition to our yearly forms, you will be asked to read and acknowledge receipt of our Covid health and safety procedures prior to enrolling. You can also find them attached here.

In summary, Janney+ is adhering to the following guidelines, protocols, and safety measures to mitigate risk and safely return to play:

  • Classes will remain with consistent cohorts
  • Students and staff will complete a health screening and temperature check prior to joining their class
  • Children will have their own equipment and it will be cleaned/ sanitized between sessions
  • Protocol for reporting and quarantining will be followed
  • Jannet+ will continue to follow the Mayor’s Order regarding travel to high-risk states and DC Health travel guidance. Please continue to check here for updated information on states that are considered high-risk.  You MUST quarantine following your return or show results of a negative test taken 3-5 days after your return.
  • Janney+ will continue to engage with local and state authorities and adhere to all guidelines recommended, making changes to protocol, as needed
  • There will be a snack and lunch period, but snacks must be brought from home and must adhere to Janney’s nut free policy. We will be providing pizza lunch on Fridays!

Students will rotate between three vendor led age based workshops daily and participate in activities and free play as a group. Each week has a different theme. Below is the camp schedule along with the names of workshops that students will be participating in for that week.

Camp is subject to a minimum and maximum enrollment. Early registration is strongly encouraged. Once a group is filled to capacity, registrants will be placed on a waitlist. We will use the waitlist to determine if we are able to open up additional spaces. Please add your child to the waitlist if you are interested in enrolling. Janney+ reserves the right to cancel camp due to insufficient enrollment. In the event of a cancellation, Janney+ will notify families in advance. Parents will have the option to receive a full refund or credit to your Campsite account.

Summer Camp 2021: Summer Acceleration

 

We are excited to announce that in collaboration with Janney, Janney+ will be able to offer programming for students enrolled in Summer Acceleration from 1:00-3:00 pm daily. During the afternoons children will engage in structured games, activities, crafts, and free play. If you are interested in enrolling in afternoon programming, please follow the link to get your child registered. Please select the option for “PM only” programming. We are fortunate to have received funding to support this program from Janney so that we can offer it at no cost to Janney families enrolled in Summer Acceleration. Janney+ Summer Camp CIT Program

 

Thank you for your interest in Janney+ Summer Camp’s Counselor-in-Training Program! Our CIT program will run alongside our summer programming the weeks of July 12th – August 6th. CITs are welcome to enroll in one or multiple weeks of programming. Our CIT program promises to be a fun introduction to the employment world, specifically as it relates to the work we do with children. CITs interested in participating in the program must be ages 12 – 15 years old.

CITs will be considered a part of our camp staff and will receive a staff t-shirt and CIT ID badge, however, they will never be left alone with children in their care. This program is designed to increase a CITs comfort with working with children and spending time in a collegial work environment. This program is a great way for CIT to receive volunteer credits for school! CITs will participate in our staff meeting each day at 8:15 am and will have special CIT training every Monday during Workshop 1 time and are invited to join Staff Lunches every Friday. CITs will also be expected to follow our staff code of conduct and expectations. This information will be shared with them during a scheduled training before their first day. We hope they will feel like an important part of our Summer Program team.

DAILY SCHEDULE

Ideally, CITs can start the day by 8:15 am to attend the daily staff meeting. End time can be communicated with Caroline based on their availability, but in general, we assume a CITs day will be 8:15 am to 3:15 pm. CITs will need to complete the health screening each morning when they arrive for camp.

The regular camp day will be from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.

  •  8:00 – 8:30 am: Arrival, health screening on the turf field, and staff meeting at 8:15 am
  •  8:30 – 8:45 am: Campers arrive on the turf field and complete the health screening and check-in process
  •  8:45 – 9:15 am: Morning meeting, free play in the classroom
  •  9:15 – 10:00 am: Workshop 1 *on Mondays there will be CIT training at this time*
  • 10:15 – 11:00 am: Workshop 2
  • 11:15 – 12:00 pm: Workshop 3
  • 12:00 – 12:15 pm: Inside break, water, bathroom
  • 12:15 – 1:00 pm: Lunch outside under tents, free play
  • 1:00 – 1:15 pm: Inside break, water, bathroom, cool off
  • 1:00 – 1:15 pm: Transition of students from Summer Acceleration
  • 1:15 – 2:00 pm: Group activity
  • 2:00 – 2:45 pm: Snack outside and free play
  • 2:45 – 3:00 pm: Pick up on the field
  • 3:00 – 3:15 pm: Staff and CIT clean up

LUNCH AND SNACKS

CITs will be provided time for morning and a late afternoon snack as part of the general snack time. They will need to pack their lunch and snacks each day, except for Fridays when they can choose to participate in Staff Lunch.

SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT

Please have your CIT bring: sunscreen, hat (if needed), and water bottle. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING A LUNCH. To help families feel more comfortable, we will plan for the majority of activities to occur outdoors. During inclement weather and extreme temperature days, we will move activities and workshops indoors.

CIT TRAINING CALENDAR

Every Monday through the Summer Programs, the CITs will participate in CIT training during Workshop 1. The topics for training are:

  • July 12- Professionalism in the Workplace Part 1: Social Media and your online presence.
  • July 19- Child Development, the Elementary Years.
  • July 26- Professionalism in the Workplace Part 2: Working with Others: Presenting yourself in the work world (i.e., interacting with colleagues, parents, bosses, and children).
  • August 2- Working with Janney+

Program Registration 


Our programs use the Campsite registration system. You may log in to your family’s Campsite account to register or view your current registrations, pay a balance, complete your children’s enrollment forms and change enrollment details, and update your family information. If needed, create your Campsite account using the link at the bottom of the log-in page.

Dates and rates for 2021-22 school year camp days are below. Note that consecutive camp days are no longer a bundled registration. Registration is required for each day that a camper attends. Regular hours are 8:30-3:00 p.m. with Extended Day hours offered from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

For all camp days, full payment is due upon registration. If you register for camp days and are placed on the waitlist, you will be notified if space becomes available. Janney+ policy is to not provide refunds for cancellations although it may be considered at the discretion of the JAC Director if there is a waitlist. If a refund is granted, there is a $15 fee for cancellations. If your child is on the waitlist and is withdrawn prior to payment being made, you are not responsible for payment. You must email JAC@janneyschool.org to be removed from the Campsite waitlist. We cannot guarantee registration fee refunds for camp programs when canceled due to inclement weather, school building closure, or other acts beyond our control.
