Janney Auxiliary Care is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of all Janney families.

The JAC program offers students the opportunity to build relationships with caring adults and peers while having breakfast at school, playing games and creating artwork, and playing outdoors. They also enjoy special events like Bingo, the JAC Talent Show, Holiday events, and JAC Carnival Day. JAC offers a regular routine, emphasizing play, good citizenship, and close relationships.


Morning Care

This service is offered 7:30–8:35 a.m.
Children have breakfast and play games with peers and JAC Counselors.


This service is offered 3:15–6:00 p.m.
Children are enrolled in grade-level classes with other JAC students.

Full Day Camps

Janney+ offers care for many of the days DCPS is closed, including Spring Break, and Summer Programs. More information and links to register can be found on our Camps page.

You may enroll your child in JAC up to two weeks before the start of the month when care is needed or for annual services. Late stay can be added as a session option during registration. JAC registration requests after the close of registration will be assessed a $25 late fee.

In an effort to keep all students safe, Janney+ follows a nut-free policy for all programming.

This policy includes products that have peanuts and tree nuts in the ingredients list. Check for nut products and by-products in foods sent to school. Products that list nuts in the ingredients are not permitted. Note this nut-free policy extends to all Janney+ camp days, including off-site field trips.

Program Policies and Procedures

Daily Morning Care schedule. Drop-off for JAC morning care is in the cafeteria any time after 7:30 a.m. Children will meet our morning care team and join their peer groups for outdoor play. If your child is new to Janney or JAC and does not know our routine, please escort your child to the cafeteria. DCPS offers breakfast for students during morning care hours. Please discuss with your child in advance if they are supposed to have breakfast at school.

Daily Aftercare Schedule. JAC provides students with a structured and stimulating environment before and after regular school hours. Our longer program in the afternoon offers both routine and choice: students enjoy snacks, afternoon meetings, and outdoor recreation with the same grade-level group of students daily.

By offering choices within a structure, JAC allows students to try new activities and broaden horizons while remaining safe and supervised. Afternoon JAC students can also take advantage of the enrichment activities offered by our Janney Enrichment Program (JEP) and our Janney Elementary Language Program (JELP). Our counselors work together to usher students between activities. If JEP and JELP students are registered for JAC afterward, parents may request that students go to the library to work on homework before joining regularly scheduled JAC activities.

Drop-Ins. We are excited to be making our programming even more flexible by bringing back our drop-in services.  We will be accommodating a limited number of drop-ins, and that is subject to availability and at the discretion of the JAC Director and Attendance Clerk.  Please send your drop-in requests to the Attendance Clerk, Betsy Good, at plusattendance@janneyschool.org as well as the JAC Director, Sara Cohen, at jac@janneyschool.org no later than 12pm noon the day of.  Unless you receive confirmation from one of those staff members, you should plan to pick-up at regular dismissal. All charges for drop-in services will be pushed at the end of the month after services have been used.

Pick-up and Sign-out. It is Janney+ policy that parents or legal guardians always sign out their child. Remember to inform us if your child will not attend JAC or if someone other than an authorized person will pick up your student. That person should bring identification in order for staff to approve student release. All pick up changes should be emailed to:

JAC pick-up procedures are as follows

  • All students must be signed out at the front desk with the Janney+ Attendance Clerk. A responsible party must sign students out. If a person other than a parent or regular caregiver, as indicated during the registration process, will pick up the student, please inform the program by emailing plusattendance@janneyschool.org.
  • Students who walk home by themselves without an adult may only do so if a note from a parent or guardian has been provided to the JAC Director or permission has been granted in the Campsite system.
  • All students must be picked up by 6 p.m. Any child not picked up by 6:00 p.m. will be assessed a late fee as determined by the JAC Program Director, but no less than $20 per any portion of each 15 minutes beyond 6:00 p.m.

Behavioral Expectations. Students are expected to act in a manner appropriate for a school environment. Persistent behavioral issues will be addressed with parents and the school and could result in dismissal from JAC. In such cases, refunds are not provided.

Cancellation Policy. For JAC programs, there is a 20% non-refundable deposit at the time of registration. Families are responsible for giving 30-days notice of cancellation before receiving a refund. A $15 fee is assessed for all cancellations.
