Community Service

The Janney community service team is always looking for new volunteer opportunities for Janney students and their grownups.

The team hosts group events throughout the year, but we know that many Janney families are looking for service projects to do on their own as a family, with friends, or with sports teams or neighborhood groups. As many service organizations require their volunteers to be at least 12 years old, we’re always happy to find opportunities that welcome younger volunteers.

IONA Senior Services

Partner with our friends at IONA to deliver food and necessary household items to our older neighbors in Ward 3, or to organize a food drive.

Rock Creek Conservancy

The Rock Creek Conservancy hosts regular events to clean up litter and remove invasive plant species. Great for kids of all ages.

Feed the Family

Feed the Family collects food and cleaning supplies for our neighbors in need in Ward 3. They love to work with neighborhood organizations such as Scout troops, faith organizations, local businesses, or social groups to support a food or cleaning supply drive to be delivered on a pre-agreed day.

Food and Friends

Volunteers of all ages can join their adult family members delivering meals for Food and Friends to clients’ homes, making this an ideal volunteer opportunity for parents with young children. Volunteers must be at least 14 to work in the kitchen preparing and packaging meals.

Friendship Place

A few short blocks from Janney, Friendship Place provides a range of drop-in services for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. While many of their in-person volunteer opportunities are on hold because of covid, they are always looking for Amazon Wish List donations of needed clothing items and kid stuff for the Brooks, a short-term housing facility for families, or lunch for La Casa, a permanent supportive housing facility for formerly homeless men. Kids can participate in choosing items to donate!

Martha’s Table

Martha’s Table is always in need of homemade sandwiches, trail mix, and muffin donations. These homemade items are distributed on McKenna’s Wagon. Young children are encouraged to work with their parents or caregivers to prepare these items and drop them off for donation.

We Are Family

Partner with We Are Family to deliver groceries to vulnerable housebound seniors. Cars required.
