Janney’s library is the hub of the school. The library includes over 12,000 media, an automated circulation system, a word processing center, and multiple research stations. It is used for instruction in library and technology skills, research, study, and recreational reading. The library is equipped with up-to-date computers and a mobile laptop lab.

Library Media at Janney Elementary School focuses on media safety, research, and technology skills.  Students learn how to use technology for fun, school projects, and spend time presenting research findings to classmates.  Students also work on public speaking skills, listening skills, and appreciation for reading and writing.

All students visit the library weekly for structured activities.

Students may check out books for two weeks from the library as follows:

  • Pre-K and K: One book at a time per child, but books must stay in the classroom.
  • Grades 1-3: One book at a time per child.
  • Grades Pre-K-3 are encouraged to check out books during scheduled class times in the library.
  • Grades 4-5: Two books at a time per child, including magazines.
